Brewbaker at Anchorvale CC

Brewbaker's Kitchen & Bar is one of the newly opened outlet under Jack's Place. It is a hidden gem located in the neighbourhood area, Sengkang at Anchorvale Community Centre. This place will serve a great hangout place for those people who want to get away from the hustle bustle city, especially when you are staying just around that area and you just do not wish to travel too far to the town area.

The total bill was $49.79. Please see below for more details.

Brewbaker, sitting near the bar
Name: Brewbaker's Kitchen & Bar
Address: 59 Anchorvale Road #01-06 Anchorvale Community Club
Telephone: 6886 1811
Operating Hours:
Mondays To Thurs : 11.30am - 11 pm
Fridays To Sats: 11.30am - Late
You can catch live soccer if you want to because they do have a tv screen inside. :)
Bar Counter

Brewbaker have both indoor and outdoor dining. One thing i really loved the most is their freshly brewed beer sampler pack. It comes with 3 different flavors (Archipelago Traveller's Wheat, Samui & Archipelago Trader's Brown Ale). If you does not know what flavor you should try on, then you should try this. I prefered Traveller's wheat and samui more than brown ale. Brown Ale is simply too bitter for me. Brewbaker also serve wines as well.

Beer Sampler Pack ($9.80 Buy 1 set get 1 set free) Promotion

Well, as for their food, I think they still have rooms for improvement. Both the mixed grill and fish & chips tasted very normal. Fish & Chips was a bit cold when it was served to me. I think it will taste better if they can serve hot the next time.

Mixed Grill ($18.50)

Traditional Fish & Chip ($14.00)

Overall, I think this place is great for gathering with a few friends, but if you are looking for good food, I think other places may fare better. However, if it is a beer session, i think i really quite enjoyed their beer.

Chalk Restaurant At Mount Sophia Road

Bread
Duck Confit ($31)
Escargot ($13)

Suprema 12 Inch Pizza ($19)

Lamb Rack ($35) Ribeye Steak ($33)
Outdoor Dining (great view of orchard behind)
( Scary?)

Here is a new hangout place that i found out recently. It is at Mount Sophia Road, just directly behind Plaza Singapura. This restaurant, Chalk is located inside this creative hub( Old school) was formerly a methodist girls school. Chalk was just opened barely for less than a month and is starting to attract some crowds. I am sure this place still need time to attract more people, it also reminded me the olden days of Demsey Road where there isn't many people. Other than that, this place have some art related businesses and gallery space.

Name: Chalk
Address: 11 Mount Sophia Road, #01-03
Tel: 6883-2120
Rating: 4 stars out of 5.

Initially, we wanted to go the restaurant which is directly opposite Chalk but the attitude and service of one the staffs really turned me off and her customer services was really bad. We asked for a table for 4 and this was what happened.

She rudely asked us "Did you make any reservation?"
We replied "No".
She replied, "Huh?? Do you know we do not have any seats available until 9.30 pm?"
I asked her again, "There are still so many seats available, can you just try to get us a table for 4 or may be you can just help us to check what time those people will be coming in?"
She impatiently replied and rolled her eyes at us, "This place is very popular, if you don't make any reservation, we will not have any tables for you."

Hello, what kind of attitude is this? She think i have no money to eat? She did not even bother to check her list before replying us. Straight away, i just tell my friends to dine at Chalk Restaurant. Anyway, Chalk restaurant looks much nicer and classy than this place.

The moment we stepped into Chalk Restaurant, we were greeted and welcomed by the friendly staffs. There is an indoor and an outdoor dining. The outdoor dining offers view of orchard road and the look and feel of the restaurant is very comfortable. The staff served each of us a glass of champage(drink of the day) first and also patiently explained the menu to us. We are also able to look into the kitchen from where we were seated. I was quite surprised when i found out that the chef was a young english lady and she is also the wife of the manager.

What I loved the most about their food was their bread. You will be served with different types of bread before the main course. We ordered a few to try. Escargot, Ribeye Steak, Duck confit, lamb rack and suprema 12 Pizza. All the food we tried were quite nice except escargot was abit salty. i specially like duck confit and ribeye steak the most.

Guess what? The total bill was only $131 for so much food and please do not worry that the portion will be small, even though it looks like a fine dining restaurant. Beside that, they did not charge us the champagne and service charge. I was wondering if it was because my boyfriend happened to know the manager. Hehehe... :)

Overall, it was a nice experience at Chalk. It is a good place for chit chatting with your friend or if you are planning for a romantic dining with your girlfriend, but yet is a little bit tight on the budget, try this restaurant.

Melben Seafood At Ang Mo Kio ( The Melben Crabs!)

Have you tried the Melben Seafood at Ang Mo Kio? This place is definitely well known for their Claypot Bee Hoon Soup Crab. Do you think they are the best place to eat crabs in Singapore? Personally, I would not say that they are the best in Singapore but they are definitely one of the most popular Crabs Haunt for the crab lovers. I also do have a special liking for their claypot crabs and creamy butter crabs. Yum! Yum! But.... their chilli crabs does not taste as good as the rest.

This place had been renovated and now this place looked so much more better with water features and the lights are actually dimmer which i think this is better for the customers. It became just like a better class kopitiam. Heehee...

Situated just opposite Melben Seafood is actually Uncle Leong Seafood. I heard both of them are from the same parent company. Despite of this, Melben Seafood had more customers.

Since there were just only 2 of us, we just ordered 1 claypot Bee Hoon Soup Crab, 1 Creamy Butter Crab and 1 Mixed mushroom vegetables. I think the price had increased slightly higher as compared to the last time I dined. I can't remember if they have GST included last time but this time they had it in the bill. The total damage for our food cost $96.30. The last time we also had 2 crabs, additional orders of Herbal wrapped chicken, Deep Fried Beancurd, Deep Fried Wu Xiang and a vegetable only cost around $120 plus and the portion was meant for 4 person the other time. Why was the difference so big this time round? Our crabs wasn't any bigger too and infact i think the person chose the smallest crabs for us. Anyway, it does not matter. We had our fill too. :)

Hainanese Delight

Here is a cheap found where you can enjoy nice food in an airconditioner area in Cityhall. Everything are priced so cheap. This authentic Hainanese restaurant is located opposite St Andrew's Cathedral church, some where beside breadtalk and the gramophone. This place look like a kopitiam with aircon but to find this kind of place in cityhall is quite rare. :)

It was my first time here and I specially like their Chicken rice. The rest are just quite normal to me. Those of you who want to look out for cheap haunt and nice authentic chicken rice can try this Hainanese Delight at stamford road. Anyway, this place is free from GST and service charge. :)

Resto Surabaya In Far East Plaza

Resto Surabaya have opened its second outlet in Far East Plaza. It seems to be popular among the indonesian chinese friends and also the malay community. Price was reasonable and I ordered 3 dishes. Beef, Ayam Penyet (Deep Fried) and their sour soup.

Food was generally alright with their specialty chilli sauce. The chilli sauce was spicy and shiok. Sour Soup tasted abit weird to me, it tasted sour, sweet... I don't know, it just really doesn't suits my taste. I like the crunchy bits of the Ayam Penyet. it was really VERY CRUNCHY! YUMMY!

Would I go back to this place again? Maybe. I would love to try other dishes. Overall, I would give them 2.8 stars out of 5.

Superdog - Singapore

Picture from superdog.com.sg

I realized I have fallen in love with this fastfood, Superdog. I am quite sure not many have heard of them cause they do not have many outlets in Singapore. So far, as I what I know, they only have 1 in Pasir Ris E Hub and 1 in vivocity. Anyway, it was quite shiok to "smuggle" Superdog into the cinema and enjoyed it slowly while I watched the show. Haha.. I ordered a Chilli Cheese Hotdog and topped up with fries and drinks. I believed this fast food was a craze for young people as I see many youngsters. The fries was crunchy and not oily, the hotdog was piping hot and yummy.

Perhaps next time I shall try their handgrilled burger? Instead of popping popcorns into your mouth the next time, why not try Superdog? :)

Bei Shan Chuan Spicy Steamboat Restaurant - Vivo City

I was at Vivocity on saturday and happened to see this banner placed near the escalator stating buffet steamboat for only $13.90++ with DBS cards (UP $16.90 on weekdays and $18.90++ on weekends).

Well, I decided to explore this steamboat restaurant. It took me about 15minutes to find the restaurant as it was located one corner at the 3rd level. As you know, Vivocity is SO Big.. I had a hard time looking for the restaurant until I smell the fragrant of the steamboat near Daiso. I traced the smell and finally I found the restaurant! I reached the restaurant before 5 pm and it was not packed with people yet. I found a good spot where I can enjoy eating my steamboat and at the same time admire the scenery outside.

To my surprise, I was quite disappointed with their varieties as there weren't much choices to choose. They don't even have meat balls. Food replenishment were slow too. Service was not good either.

I saw one of their male staff shouting at a customer in mandarin," Boss, Do you know you are blocking my way? How do you expect me to go over when you stand there?" The customer just replied, "Oh, I am so sorry." If the person he shouted at was me, I would definitely make a complain to their manager. I finished my meal around 6.30pm and when I was about to eat ice-cream, they had NO MORE ICE-CREAM. When I asked for a refill, they told me they had ran out of ice-cream for the day. How could it be possible when it was just only 6.30pm? The crowds were still queuing and filling into the restaurants.

Although Bei Shan Chuan Spicy Steamboat really have a lot to improve, they still have their plus point. The food were fresh and prawns were of reasonable size. Soup base was quite okay. The temperature of the aircon was also good to have steamboat, because I did not sweat while eating the steamboat. Keke... but i heard the aircon will be turned off after 9.30pm. Overall, I give this restaurant a 3 stars for ambience, 2 stars for food and 1 star for service. Would I consider to go back to this place again?Maybe, if they still have the promotion.

Address: Vivo City #03-07 ( Beside Daiso, hiding at one corner)

**Please note that it is not one DBS card per bill to enjoy the promo. It is one dbs card per pax. You have to show them your cards to them. Weird and stupid, right? But it is their rules.

Koo Kee Dumpling & Ramen House

Soup Of The Day
Vegetables
Deep Fried Chicken with their special sauce
Claypot Toufu
Cod Fish
Dessert Of The Day

This was my first time at Koo Kee Dumpling & Ramen House. I am not so sure about other outlets but I am quite satisfied with their Century Square Outlet. We got ourselves stumbled into their restaurant because of their friendly service and of course, their set meals look reasonably affordable. Haha.

I guessed we are too early for a dinner, there wasn't many people at the restaurant. So, after browsing the food menu, we decided to try their set meal at the price of $40++ for 2 pax. Total Damage was around $55 with gst and service charges.

Set Meal Include:
Soup of the day (Winter Melon with spare ribs and red dates, Very Good)
Deep Fried Spring Chicken with special sauce (signature dish) (Good!)
Vegetables in Oyster sauce (A bit too salty)
Claypot Doufu (Beancurd) (Ok!)
Steamed Cod Fish with sauce (Good!)
Dessert Of the day ( We got crunchy aloe vera with jelly, very cooling and nice)

Overall, the food should be well liked by chinese because it is not too oily. A place that is worth visiting. Will I go back there again? Of course... Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5.

Nihon Mura - Pasir Ris E Hub

Nihon Mura have a few outlets in Singapore. So far, I have tried the food at Revenue House and also Pasir Ris E Hub. In terms of quality of the food and service, I think Pasir Ris would be better. The first time I ate their sushi buffet was at Revenue House. There were not much choices and the food did not fare well too. So, the second time I visited Nihon Mura was at Pasir Ris E-hub, their alacarte food would be a better choice than their sushi buffet. Hence, if you are thinking of going to Nihon Mura, I would advise you to try their alacarte menu more than their sushi buffet.

Rochor Beancurd at Geylang

Rochor Beancurd is one of the best supper spot favourite by many night clubbers. It has been there for many years and many people go there because of their freshly made deep fried fritters (You Tiao) goes well with their smoothie Tou Hua. Most of the food are cheap and good. I have been patronizing them since secondary school days. However, one of the thing that I do not like geylang is parking problem.

Mouth Restaurant

Mouth Restaurant is being voted as one of the best and oldest teahouse in Singapore. I just went for their Hi-Tea Promotion as there was a 50% Discount on their Hi-Tea Alacarte. I would say they do not have much choices to choose from on their Hi-Tea Ala carte. Maybe it was because of their 50% discount, Mouth Restaurant was flooded with families. It would not be an ideal place to dine if you are looking a quiet atmosphere. That place was highly polluted with noise....

Must Tries: Deep Fried banana with prawn, sharkfins dumpling (do not expect a lot of sharkfins inside, it was the clear broth that was nice), Xiao Long Tang Bao.
Rating: 3 stars for food, 1.5 stars for ambience (Too Noisy)

If you want to enjoy the 50% Discount on their dim sum, just retain the original coupon found inside your citibank june's credit card statement. Minimum 4 pax to 10 pax. Offer is only valid till 7 July 2008. Mine was an online statement so I actually printed out the coupon in colour and managed to get a 50% discount at the Chinatown point outlet. I am not sure if they are very particular on the "Original Coupon" to enjoy the offer. Anyway, I was trying my luck the other day. :)

Mapo Doufu Restaurant 麻婆豆腐饭庄 (Thomson)

This is my 3rd time to Mapo Doufu Restaurant 麻婆豆腐饭庄 at Thomson. One of the reason I go back there is because of their deep fried pumpkin. In terms of comparing them to those steamboat in Marina Square, it is far much more better. They serve out the food through the alacarte menu and you can have unlimited orders hence it is definitely cleaner than those steamboats which you paid about $12 per head. Some of my friends actually like their appetizer as they serve pig ears, sweet and sour cucumber. If I don't remember wrongly, they have more than 60 dishes for you to choose ranging from seafood, meat and vegetables. If you eat beef, you would definitely like their thin slice beef where you enjoy the dipping into their Mala Soup. As expected, some of the food they served are not fresh enough but overall most of the food are still acceptable. Paying $20/pax for the varieties and cleanliness, I think it is still worth it.

Cosafe Maid Bar & Restaurant

Meat Platter
Seafood Platter

I have always been wanting to go to this restaurant and I finally got a chance to go. Before going to this restaurant, I found some negative reviews on them. Reviews such as they are only friendly to tourists and the food was not very good blah blah... Anyway, I still decided to go and see it for myself because of their uniforms.

My first impression on them was "Well, there are nothing impressive about their decor, it is just another cafe". Before we have a chance to walk around to see other restaurants, we were approached by this very friendly Filippino staff. She greeted us and made a great effort on explaining their menu and special drink that they have for that day. In the end, we decided to try their food because of her service.
Unlike others, I have a totally different opinion on them. They have EXCELLENT customer's services. Everytime after the food served, the staff would bow and tell us to enjoy the meal with a big friendly smile. Not only they bothered to change your plates when it was dirty, they also change your serviettes as well. Furthermore, I heard that this restaurant was owned by a very young and vibrant lady who is only 17 years old. Cool!
